HRS Charity Week

The final week of term at Helena Romanes School was dedicated to ‘Charity Week’ and we’ve had a wonderful three days! This year, staff and students voted to raise money for:

• Haven’s Hospices/Little Haven’s Hospices 
• Essex Dementia care 

Both Charities are based in Essex, which makes it incredibly rewarding to raise money for local causes. Year group assemblies in the last week shared the work of each charity and explained to students why this annual event is so important.  

This year, the show tickets for the ‘Wo/man V’s food’ eating challenge and ‘Strictly Teacher Come Dancing’ sold out in 8 minutes and made £700. The shows provided great entertainment to students and was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Many thanks to the teachers who ‘suffered’ for their art in the name of charity! 

In addition, the Sixth Form students ran a range of events at a Christmas market such as: an amazing bake sale, guess the name of the elf and goose, sporting events, student raffles and more. The hard work of Sixth Form students and tutors paid off as it raised a huge proportion of our total fund.

This year, we have also been able to get much more involved with the primary pupils, running a Christmas market and primary disco (hosted by Sixth Form students)

I’d like to personally thank all the wonderful parents that paid for non-uniform days, participated in the raffle and gave generously. It really motivated the students and contributed to two fantastic charities. We have a wonderful and generous community of parents!

We’re still counting the funds and we will not know the exact total until January but, at this point, we’re up to £3,200 with lots more still coming in.
